Our story
In 2008 Nicholas & Steele was founded by Holly and Steve out of a life-long love affair with decorative and salvage antiques and a passion for history and interior design.
By 2010 this manifested itself in a bricks and mortar shop in West Wimbledon, London trading mainly in vintage homewares and decorative antiques alongside a busy art school run by Holly.
Nicholas & Steele quickly established itself as the heart of our little community where you would often find locals, interior designers and celebrities sharing stories over a cup of tea. It also became a hub for artists and makers encouraging creative and aesthetic living.
In 2014 an opportunity to move out of London presented itself. This, coupled with an ever-increasing demand for online shopping, allowed us to realise our long-time dream of relocating to the countryside and being closer to family.
We moved to Cottesbrooke in beautiful, rural Northamptonshire where we have been successfully trading online ever since.
Travelling to Europe and the Southern hemisphere as well as scouring local Uk fairs in search of unique finds, our mission has always been to find quality, eclectic, decorative pieces for the aesthetic home.
Living on an English country estate we take some inspiration from the country house look as well as our many trips to France where we love nothing better than a good scratch in a chateau attic or farmer’s barn in search of unique stock to bring fresh to the market.
We believe that a home should be comfortable, lived in and reflect the characters, tastes and experiences of those who live there regardless of what current trends dictate.
Our quest for creating the aesthetic home has also led us to source and create beautiful reclaimed and artisanal products including Luna Design wooden frames imported from South Africa as well as The Painted Anthology- hand painted found objects by Holly Nicholas-steele, with more exciting product ranges to come.
Over the course of the past decade we have established ourselves as a familiar name in our industry selling our wares both at home in the UK and abroad.
It is our personal touch and experience that sets us apart and our willingness to go the extra mile for our customers who often become our friends, trusting us to always provide an excellent buying experience from start to finish.
