This really is a most exciting find. A curious, magical mystery box with medieval beaten metal lid and velvet trim.

it appears very very old. A casket sort of box that would have been fit for a king. It could have held a religious relic, treasure but certainly it was made to hold something extremely important. 

It has pierced metal borders, an intricate beaten metal lid. Velvet sides which appear to have originally been studded, possibly with something valuable which at some point, would have been removed and probably re used elsewhere. 
inside the box is lined with a padded raw silk interior. 

There are obvious signs of age and a few losses but this truly is an incredible magical box.
